Wasia Project Delivers an Intimate & Unforgettable Night with Back-to-Back Shows in LA

Fresh off the high of their first-ever Lollapalooza stage, Wasia Project made their way to Los Angeles for two same-day, back-to-back shows at the Pico Union Project, presented by Sid The Cat. The intimate setup made the night feel extra special, with approximately less than 200 people in attendance, all eager to experience something rare from the sibling duo.

Formed by siblings Olivia and Will Gao, Wasia Project has quickly become a rising force in the indie-pop scene with their soulful melodies, emotionally rich sound, and heartfelt storytelling. They first caught attention with breakout tracks like “Petals on the Moon” and “ur so pretty,” and have since built a devoted fanbase that has led to multiple sold-out shows all over the world. With each show, they’ve solidified themselves as one of the most exciting acts to watch in the coming years.

As doors opened, fans rushed to find the perfect spot, though every seat in the house was admittedly a good one. When chatter finally began to settle, Olivia and Will stepped out, greeting the audience with warm smiles before easing into the night with a few songs, including “Is This What Love Is” and “My Lover Is Sleeping.” From the very first notes that echoed in the venue, it was clear this was going to be a night to remember.

Officially greeting fans, Olivia shared that tonight’s performance would just be the two of them, offering stripped-back, acoustic versions of their songs, something they don’t often get the chance to do. She thanked the crowd for coming before they carried on with songs like “To Get Better,” and “My Vine,” the latter turning into a beautiful sing-along that filled the venue like Wasia Project’s own personal symphony. The duo paused to praise the audience’s beautiful harmonies before continuing to chat with fans, expressing their love for LA. They revealed that the next song, “how can i pretend,” was written in the city, making the next performance feel even more special.

Every song was met with loud applause, with the crowd showing their appreciation for each performance. And what made the night even more remarkable was the lack of phones in the air. Everyone seemed completely present, absorbed in the music. Setting the stage for one of the night’s most memorable moments, they delivered a stripped-back version of “Petals on the Moon.” Usually upbeat, hearing it in a new acoustic rendition captivated the crowd and had them in awe, before easing into the songs “Why Don’t U Love Me” and “ur so pretty.”

A funny highlight of the evening came when Will offered the audience a choice between hearing a stripped version of “impossible” or an unreleased track. As soon as “impossible” was mentioned, the room went silent, making both siblings laugh as they didn’t realize no one would vote for the song. But after cheers filled the venue for the latter, they performed their unreleased single, “Letters of the Day.”

The night ended on a high note with “Somebody Come Through,” sparking another venue-wide sing-along and an immediate standing ovation. It was a perfect closer for an evening that not only showcased Wasia Project’s artistry in its rawest form but also the genuine connection and respect their fans had for them.
