alan vuong Delivers High-Energy Set at L.A.’s Moroccan Lounge

On May 23rd, in the heart of Los Angeles, alan vuong took the city by storm. Bringing together dedicated fans from all over the city to the iconic, sold out Moroccan Lounge, the entire space was packed wall to wall, transforming the Lounge into an energetic crowd.
The SoCal native first started making music within the comfort of his room. Like many young artists, vuong started distributing his musical experiments on Soundcloud. There, he grew an audience obsessed with his sound, which only increased with the rise of TikTok. vuong’s laid-back and emotional R&B tones, similar to that of Brent Faiyaz and Frank Ocean, easily won fans' hearts. His songs are synonymous to late night drives. The intimacy of his music has attracted many young listeners and has the ability to bring out feelings in a unique way.
In the Moroccan Lounge, the crowd waited in darkness for vuong to appear. Although his sound is known for being chill and intimate, the fans that night were buzzing with energy. As soon as he came onto the stage, the crowd surged forward. Despite fighting a sore throat, vuong opened with untapped energy, with a light in his eyes and movement in his feet.
Starting his performance strong with an indie-disco vibe, vuong’s stage presence hit the crowd instantly. In contrast to the night’s openers, Last Known Species and Mercydaone, who had set a chill mood, vuong chose to take an energetic approach, bringing new life to the crowd. The stage was small, but vuong made use of it. He filled the stage with his drummer, lead guitarist, bassist, and saxophonist/keyboardist. The whole band played as one harmonious unit, with vuong as the ringleader.
Not only would vuong make sure to spotlight his openers throughout the set, vuong also highlighted his band, giving them the space to improvise and show off. The joy in vuong’s eyes felt infectious as his guitarist riffed, his saxophonist blasted, and his drummer crashed. He also understood the size of the room, giving attention to both fans in the front and at the very back of the venue. vuong made it evident how much his fans mean to him, acknowledging that they were the reason he can tour.
vuong’s live sound could only be described as an energy—there was an energy to his vocals, an energy to his lyrics, and an energy to his love for music. Songs like “SUADADE,” “DEEP IN YOUR SOUL,” and “FWM” were fan favorites. Each song brought a new wave of emotion within them.
When “DONT_SAY” came on, the crowd instantly responded to the excitement of the upbeat song. vuong was seen grooving along as he showed off his dancing skills to this song, and every other upbeat song that night. Unexpectedly bringing a playful side to the indie music scene, his small and precise dancing invited the audience to dance along with him, including those standing at the very back, heating up the cool air.
When the night started, the air felt clear and crisp. But by the end of the night, vuong had filled that same air with deep emotion and euphoria. His sold-out show in L.A. is just the beginning of a promising career. Catch vuong at his New York show on June 24 at the Mercury Lounge.
