Brooklyn’s Sabrina Song Knows How to “Play It Cool"

Updated: 17 hours ago

If you love wistful guitar and romantic longing, then you need to tune into indie musician Sabrina Song's latest release, "Play It Cool." The Brooklyn-based musician will drop her upcoming album, Big Trick, on May 8th and host an EP release show on May 14th in Brooklyn at Union Pool.

Publishing her first EP Undone in 2019, Song released her first album You Could Stay in One Spot, and I'd Love You The Same in 2024. In addition to writing and producing her own music, Song has contributed musically for other indie artists, including rock band Pom Pom Squad and pop rock artist Sofia D'Angelo. Song will also open for Pom Pom Squad on April 25th in Brooklyn at Elsewhere Zone One.

With a shy, yet open sound, "Play It Cool" reminds listeners of the beginnings of love—a first crush, a second glance. Rushing into feelings that become immense, Song describes the dichotomy between falling hard while not wanting to scare the other person away.

"Never the first to say it

Oh and I hate to break the news

When it's over, I'm running straight to you"

Accompanying "Play It Cool," Song also released a paper animation lyric video featuring pairs of different animals that mate for life. The paper animation adds to the playful and earnest mood of the song.
