Multinational girl group X:IN has made a much-awaited comeback with its third mini album, Defend Myself. The album is also the group’s first under its new agency BeBy Entertainment. This album captures the intricacies of X:IN’s personal experiences as the members deal with vulnerabilities and challenges of being in the spotlight. Defend Myself was released digitally on May 17, 2025.

Defend Myself includes four tracks, namely, “Attention Seeker,” “수리수리마하수리 수수리 사바하 (SABAHA),” “Bitter Love,” and “Almost Done.” The members participated in writing the tracks, further adding a touch of their experiences to the songs. The album features the image of a brain painted golden with the album title in bold, written at the top against a cracked, beige wall.

X:IN Defend Myself Album Review

The album starts with the title track “Attention Seeker,” which is a bold number that talks about the duality that comes with the desire to be famous. On one hand, one wants the attention, but on the other hand, it also brings along a state of insecurity and self-identity crisis. The members Nova, Aria, and Hannah participated in co-writing the song. The next song, “SABAHA,” is a song that expresses the desire to fall in love. The song is wrapped in a goth-like tune, running on a fast-paced melody. The next track, “Bitter Love,” resorts to mellower sounds and balanced singing as the members sing about the perils of complicated relationships and the constant push and pull of emotions. It is co-written by Nizz and Aria. “Almost Done” brings the album to a conclusion with a powerful and autobiographical narrative about the group’s growth through the years. The song is a message that, while the group is almost there in achieving its goals, it also reflects on the personal growth of the members. All members participated in writing this song.

With Defend Myself, X:IN has certainly moved on from the sweet and bubbly sounds of its previous releases. The members and the group as a whole have evolved with each learning curve that came their way. The group has cemented its identity as a versatile group that is here to stay. Speaking about the album, the group’s leader E.sha said, “The album talks about two sides. It's an album about the feelings behind the glamorous appearance and our story of trying to protect ourselves in the confusion. As you listen to the four songs in the album, you’ll notice the atmosphere continuously shifts.”

The album also contains instrumental versions of each of these four tracks. The physical album was released on May 22, whereas it was available in offline stores from May 23 onwards.

X:IN is a five-member multi-national girl group currently managed by BeBy Entertainment. The group’s members are E.sha, Nizz, and Hannah, who hail from South Korea; Hannah, who hails from Russia; and Aria, who hails from India. The group made its debut in April 2023. In October 2024, X:IN collaborated with Russian singer TSOY on the single “Seoul - Moskva,” with lyrics in Russian, Korean, and English.
