What would a day in Laufey’s world look like? Probably a stop at a local coffee shop, a visit to a museum or bookstore, and, of course, some music along the way.

On Aug. 23, fans got to experience just that with the fourth annual A Very Laufey Day. The annual event took place in more than 75 cities across 25 countries, with this year’s theme focusing on “A Celebration of the Arts.”

The event kicked off in 2023 ahead of the release of Laufey’s second album, Bewitched. At the time, Laufey wanted to create a day that would get fans out of their homes and follow an itinerary based on her idea of a perfect day, with the music from the album accompanying them along the way.

Ever since then, the event has grown. This year’s itinerary brought fans even further into the different art forms that have influenced Laufey, including music, film, dance, theater, visual arts and literature.

Depending on the city, fans could visit participating museums and bookstores, stop by local cafés serving Laufey-inspired drinks or attend live performances ranging from jazz and classical music to ballet and theater. Some locations also offered limited-edition merchandise and other Laufey-themed experiences throughout the day.

But this year wasn’t only about discovering Laufey’s interests. She also wanted to introduce her younger audience to spaces they may not normally visit.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Laufey spoke about wanting to make traditionally “high cultural experiences,” like orchestras, museums and galleries, feel less intimidating for her largely Gen Z and Gen Alpha fanbase.

It also brings the event back to why she created it in the first place: “getting people offline and into their communities.” Fans who may have first connected through Laufey’s music or online fandom were given a reason to spend the day discovering a new bookstore, walking through a museum, grabbing coffee, or simply meeting other fans.

What started as Laufey’s idea of a perfect day has now become a yearly tradition for listeners around the world, with each experiencing a little piece of Laufey’s world in their own city.
