MILA BEA (SG) - PERFORMING AT 9:15 PM

After years of writing songs in her room and having embarked on her career as an artist in the public eye merely a year ago, 17-year-old Singaporean singer-songwriter Mila Bea is set to make her Music Matters Live debut at the Mainstage at CQ this evening. Her brand-new single “Laughing track” was released on September 19 and is part of her upcoming project titled Tiny Mythologies.

Your latest single “Laughing track” is a preview of your upcoming project Tiny Mythologies. What was it like working on this particular track, and combining all the pieces of a jigsaw together?

Mila: This track was so incredibly fun to work on—Roo, (my manager/producer), Rich Huxley (my producer) and I are sonic soulmates, and we found ourselves bent over laughing when producing the track. I’m so grateful I got to spend four beautiful days in a gorgeous studio in Peak District, writing a song that means the world to me with my favorite people.

If your music could be described in the form of a Spotify Daylist title, what would you call it?

Mila: Mila’s mythologies!

What are you most looking forward to with your performance at Girls’ Night Out

Mila: I’m super looking forward to performing one of my unreleased songs “One soldier two,” that I’ll be releasing soon.

It’s been a little more than a year since the release of your debut album Part of Me. What has changed since then, in terms of your musical style and how you approach live performances?

Mila: I’ve changed musically and artistically, as well as in the monumental way anyone changes when going from 13 to 17 years old. I’ve become incredibly grounded in both my intuition and creative vision, which I bring to the surface in my lyrics and art. In terms of my musicality, the last year catapulted me into becoming obsessed with trying every instrument I can get my hands on and diving into the mysterious depths of music theory.

Before we wrap up the interview, what’s one song from your discography that you hope Mido readers will resonate with?

Mila: I hope Mido readers can resonate with my new single “Laughing Track” that just came out. An apologetic breakup anthem has never done anyone harm!

HILLARI (NO/PH) - PERFORMING AT 9:50 PM

Representing both Norway and the Philippines this year, we have the one and only HILLARI. With vocals as enchanting as the first breeze of autumn, the 20-year-old singer is best known for her cozy R&B, soul and pop tracks, including her most recent project “I’m Still” released on September 5.

Your latest release “I’m Still” is a track that fans can definitely enjoy from your upcoming set at Girls Night Out! Are there any other tracks that you are most looking forward to performing at the showcase?

HILLARI: I’m so excited to perform “Lose it all” because it’s such an emotional song for me, and I love seeing how people connect with it live. Also “Two Cents” always brings so much energy, so I can’t wait to share that moment with everyone too.

What’s your version of a perfect girls’ night out?

HILLARI: Honestly, it’s all about the vibe. Good food, lots of laughs, and being around people who make you feel comfortable and free to just be yourself. Add some great music, and maybe a little dancing, and that’s my perfect girls’ night!

How do you normally prepare for a live performance? Do you have any rituals that you follow before going on stage?

HILLARI: I always take a moment to breathe and center myself, just to calm the nerves and remind myself why I’m doing this. I also like to pray before going on stage—it keeps me grounded. And of course, warming up my voice is a must.

You’ve already performed at a few of the showcases over the past few days. What was your most memorable moment from it?

HILLARI: It has to be the moment I performed “Only God” and the entire room was quiet and truly present in the moment.

Now that we’ve come to the end of the interview, what’s one piece of advice you would have for the readers out there who too would love to work within the music industry one day?

HILLARI: Stay true to yourself and your vision. It’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, but your uniqueness is what will set you apart. Work hard, stay consistent, and surround yourself with people who believe in you as much as you do.

FRIZZELL D'SOUZA - PERFORMING AT 11 PM

Rising singer-songwriter Frizzell D’souza has had quite the remarkable year in 2025. From her debut at Lollapalooza India in March to her most ambitious project yet with “My Last Cigarette,” Frizzell is definitely an artist you should look out for. Your latest track “My Last Cigarette” is something that you’ve been performing live for the past year or so, even before its official release. Is there any particular part from the song that you and the band always love performing live?

Frizzell: I love the little cheeky stops and harmonies in the song! It makes the song super playful as intended. The guitar and keys parts are incredibly tasteful as well. But of course, the lyrics are my favorite.

You’ve already done a few sets over the course of the weekend at Music Matters Live. What was your most memorable moment from it?

Frizzell: I’ve been curious to see the response and I guess my music falls under the less commonly listened to/played music. So I love to see people slightly taken aback with a sound that’s been slightly different from the rest of the evening.

With your performance at Girls’ Night Out happening soon, what’s something fans can look forward to with your set?

Frizzell: I’m excited to finally play my set on the Main Stage! “My Last Cigarette” and “Symmetries” are two songs to definitely watch out for.

What’s your version of a perfect girls’ night out?

Frizzell: Beers and Olivia Dean and lots of laughter!

As we wrap up the interview, if you could leave a message to yourself from exactly a year ago, what would you tell her?

Frizzell: Focus on what matters, never stop having fun, and cut out the noise—you do you!

The Girls’ Night Out showcase will also feature Australian singer-songwriter Yorke, French artist BRÖ and British artist Tiggi Hawke. Catch this action-packed evening right in the heart of central Singapore at Clarke Quay from 7:30 PM onwards on October 1.
