Wednesday night at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana was nothing short of historic for Orange County-based artist alan vuong. In what marked his first-ever headline performance, vuong stepped onto the stage to a completely sold-out crowd packed with friends, family, and devoted fans who had been waiting for this moment. The energy in the room before the night even began said it all—this wasn't just a concert, it was a milestone.
alan vuong is a Southern California-native alternative R&B artist who first began making music as a bedroom hobby before the internet took notice. His rise to popularity came largely through TikTok, where snippets of his dark, dreamy sound quickly found a home on people's "for you" pages. His most recent single, "DEEP IN YOUR SOUL," charted on nine Viral Spotify Charts and helped propel him from 4,000 to over 2 million monthly listeners in a matter of months. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Frank Ocean, Brent Faiyaz, and Tame Impala, vuong has carved out a sound that feels both intimate and expansive with his ability to blend psychedelic rhythms with emotional songwriting in a way that's entirely his own.

Opening up the night was Texas-based artist Elias, who wasted no time getting the crowd settled into the right headspace. His set was filled with pure, effortless vibes, the kind that make you close your eyes and just feel the music. Performing tracks like "gimme love" and his personal favorite "sweet escape," Elias brought a warmth and ease to the room that laid the perfect foundation for what was ahead. By the end of his set, the crowd was already locked in.

Next up was Sultan Dè, a Chicago-based R&B artist known for weaving together alternative pop and neo-soul into nostalgic, emotionally rich songs. True to his style, Sultan Dè let the crowd know that his set was going to be "an emotional roller coaster," and he delivered on every word. Moving through songs like "all of me," "Symphony," and "DRIVING," he guided the audience through waves of feeling, never letting the momentum slip. He even debuted an unreleased track called "Take Some Time," giving the crowd something truly special to hold onto long after the night was over.

Soon enough, it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for. alan vuong made his first-ever steps onto the stage and immediately made it count, opening with "FWM" and setting the room ablaze from the very first note. He paused to take it all in, sharing with the crowd that, as many times as he had been told the show was sold out, nothing could have prepared him for actually seeing it with his own eyes. He called the night a celebration and made it clear how deeply grateful he was for every single person who showed up. The appreciation was mutual, with fans hanging onto every word and every chord. He carried that electricity forward into "SOMETHING_BOUT_YOU," getting the entire room to wave their hands in the air in unison. It was one of those rare stage moments where you could see the artist genuinely loving every second of it, and the crowd loving it right back.

The set continued to build from there. alan performed a few unreleased tracks set to drop next month, giving fans an early taste of what's coming. He also reached back into his catalog, pulling out "downtown," one of his first releases as an artist, creating a moment that sent a wave of nostalgia through the room and sparked an eruption of both shock and excitement. "DONT_SAY" kept the energy flowing and had fans nodding along deep in the feeling. In a heartfelt interlude, alan switched things up by performing a few songs from Cigarettes After Sex, pausing to reflect on how making music is an art, but so is sharing music—and that he wanted to pay homage to one of the artists who has meant the most to him in his creative journey.

As the night approached its finale, alan saved some of his most beloved songs for last. "DEEP IN YOUR SOUL" and "TOO LATE FOR YOU" sent the crowd into a frenzy even as everyone knew the end was drawing near. He closed things out the way he started, with genuine gratitude. alan took a moment to thank everyone one last time, expressing how surreal and meaningful it was to sell out his very first live performance, especially here in Orange County, the place he calls home. This night of firsts was one for the books, and if Wednesday was any indication, we are only at the very beginning of what alan vuong has to offer.
