Singer-Songwriter Rin Takes Toronto to “pluto”

Though Friday, March 20 marked the first day of spring, Toronto remained stubbornly cold with grey skies. Still, that didn't stop concert goers from lining up around TD Music Hall, eager to see the Filipino American artist, Rin.

With a sound rooted in emotional honesty and soft acoustic textures, Rin is steadily carving out her place in the scene. Drawing inspiration from musicians such as Laufey, Rin describes her latest project, fawn, as “cozy” and “dainty.”

Midway through her first headlining tour, Rin has already reached a major milestone, performing to packed venues across sold-out cities. The tour titled fawn, in celebration of her album of the same name, captures a warm and personal atmosphere. Joined by her bandmates, Maria, Nik, and Ralph, the tour’s success not only reflects her growing and loving fanbase but also marks her transition from a shy online presence to a compelling live performer.

Rin’s band drew steadily growing cheers as they took the stage one by one. The volume was astronomical once Rin appeared and launched into her first song, pluto.” The quartet carried that warm atmosphere with best interestand tiptoe,” both off her 2024 EP mended heart.

Rin paused to voice appreciation for her Toronto fans, taking in the crowd's energy. She then introduced what many fans eagerly waited for: selecting someone from the crowd to babysit her Tamagotchi for the night. The moment was both playful and personal, as the chosen fan held a sign designed as the beloved toy. To add even more meaning, Rin had handwritten a special letter for each tour stop, gifting it to the selected fan as a memory that will last a long time.

After nice & slow the band stepped offstage, leaving Rin alone. With a shy smile, Rin joked, ”My band is leaving me… I guess I'll have to do an acoustic song,” drawing laughs from the crowd. The mood shifted as Rin strummed her guitar to continue mesmerizing the crowd with potential and sweater song.”

Some fans brought thoughtful gifts for Rin to show their appreciation. At one point, a fan handed Rin a Canadian flag covered in handwritten messages and signatures from the crowd. Rin gladly accepted it with a bright smile, gleefully showing off the flag as the audience cheered.

Maria, Nik, and Ralph rejoined Rin, moving seamlessly into fawn,” “homesick,” and a cover of Sixpence None The Richer's “Kiss Me.” Throughout the night, Rin took the time to share the stories behind a few songs, opening up about heartbreak, friendship breakups, and the highs and lows that shaped her journey to where she is now.

The night carried on with taxi,” after which Rin announced just mewould be the last song. But the crowd wasn’t ready to let Rin go yet. Moments after the band left the stage, they returned to perform the beloved homebody,” with fans continuing to sing and dance along.

Before closing out the night, Rin created one last unforgettable moment. She invited the fan with her Tamagotchi back to the front of the stage to snap a polaroid together! The fan’s excitement was unmistakenable. It was a moment that spoke volumes—the kind of genuine appreciation Rin gives to the people who showed up for her.
