KIMIKO's "Just Like That!" Is for Anyone Who's Ever Been Ghosted

Sometimes the hardest part of getting ghosted isn't moving on but pretending you've already moved on. KIMIKO taps into a feeling that’s all too familiar on her single, "Just Like That!," where a seemingly harmless "Get Ready With Me" vlog slowly unravels into a humorous yet painfully relatable healing spiral.

You may recognize Kimiko Glenn from her breakout role as Brook Soso in Orange Is the New Black or from voicing fan-favorite characters in animated series like BoJack Horseman and DuckTales. But the actress is now stepping into a new creative chapter under the mononym KIMIKO.

Her single offered a preview ahead of her debut EP, Modern Dance, which came out in the earlier part of August. This project explores heartbreak, the rush of romance, and the emotional rollercoaster of today’s dating culture.

The "Just Like That!" music video opens like any other "Get Ready With Me" livestream. As KIMIKO applies her makeup, she receives a text from a mysterious man, only to realize it's the ex who ghosted her. This is where the MV then turns into a series of “reels” documenting the messy reality of trying to move on from someone who suddenly reappears.

"'Just Like That!' is a seemingly chill song about the world being literally on fire, but your biggest concern—the greatest tragedy of all—is that he hasn't texted you back," KIMIKO said in a statement. "It's a gross display of how unreasonable yearning feels, and how deranged it makes you.”

The music video cleverly frames the story through the lens of a fictional micro-influencer. As KIMIKO documents her "healing era" through trendy vlogs, fashion hauls, dance challenges, and matcha runs, she works overtime to convince both her followers and herself that she's completely unbothered. Yet beneath those carefully curated posts, it's clear she's quietly unraveling, poking fun at the emotional disconnect between what people share online and what they're actually feeling offline.

"Just Like That!" offers a glimpse into what listeners can expect from the Modern Dance EP, turning one of modern dating's most frustrating experiences into a song that's witty, cheeky, and painfully relatable.
